Annual Calendar Events

Poetas Con Café

Poetas Con Cafe is a forum for poets and musicians to share their work with the East Harlem community.  The readings are held every second Saturday during the summer, from June through September in the Modesto Flores Community Garden on Lexington Avenue near 104th Street.

Poetas Con Café features poets / musicians whose work or experience is connected to the East Harlem area. Hope Community, Inc. awards a stipend to each featured artist for their live presentation; the grant is occasionally matched by Poets & Writers, Inc.

Poetas Con Café was founded and is hosted by Hope Community, Inc. board member Roger Cabán, who also serves as host each year.

Three Kings Day Parade/Dinner

Each January, Hope Community celebrates El Barrio's time-honored tradition of the Three Kings Day Parade, its renowned procession through the streets of El Barrio.  This time-honored tradition fills up the neighborhood's streets with lively music, colorful dancing and parrandas.  In addition to participating in the Three Kings Day Parade, Hope Community hosts a Three Kings Day Dinner to commemorate and celebrate the journey of the biblical three king.

Thanksgiving Dinner at Carlos Rios

Each November, Hope Community hosts the annual Thanksgiving Dinner at Carlos Rios -- a Hope-owned-and-managed seniors residence.  Residents of Carlos Rios, their families and staff of Hope Community celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday by celebrating our seniors.  The annual Thanksgiving Dinner is always well-attended with even the Manhattan Borough President ensuring to include the annual Thanksgiving Dinner on his calendar each year.

Mother's Day Celebration

In May, Hope Community celebrates Mother's Day each year with the residents of Carlos Rios -- a Hope-owned-and-operated seniors residence.  Seniors who are mothers are encouraged to bring their families as they enjoy music, food and fellowship with Hope's Community Relations staff and residents of East Harlem who attend annually to pay their respects to the seniors and women of the East Harlem community.

Fall Festival

Annually in the fall, Hope Community hosts the Fall Festival, which is a free event where East Harlem residents of all ages celebrate the culture and the arts of the community.  The Fall Festival has become an important and fun-filled annual celebration.  Local families partake in youth and adult-centered activities as well as benefit from informational kiosks represented by local organizations who service East Harlem in order to build a stronger community.

Annual Gala & Community Service Awards

The Annual Gala & Community Service Awards is a longstanding Hope tradition where we celebrate community service and honor local leaders.  The annual event is both a fundraiser and a time to reflect on our work and our partnerships with many other groups and agencies.  It is also a forum where we recognize a number of outstanding individuals who have committed their vision and talents to building a better East Harlem; as well as one Hope Community, Inc. staff person and a member our Board of Directors.
