Community Relations
Hope Community's Community Relations Department coordinates a wide range of initiatives and projects designed to enhance the lives of East Harlem’s residents. One of the department’s primary goals is to provide referrals to entitlement and benefit programs so that tenants can effectively address problems related to lack of adequate income, child care, health, education, and special needs through.
Hope's Community Relations staff also work with tenant leaders to organize tenant associations in Hope buildings that serve as a vehicle for communicating with the Hope's Property Management Department regarding building-related issues. Furthermore, Hope has been instrumental in forming and active in the East Harlem/El Barrio Anti-Displacement Task Force and other local housing initiatives.
Community Relations Department staff have also been working with local youth to organize bike rides, street festivals, bake sales, a theater club, support groups, and other activities for younger East Harlem residents through community-wide initiatives and programs.
Hope Community also regularly hosts recycling and healthy-eating workshops, after-school tutoring, and English-as-a-Second Language classes in its buildings. During the summer, we work with other agencies to create volunteer opportunities in our community gardens; and to co-host holiday celebrations, community activities and other events.
