BACKGROUND

Poetas con Café is sponsored by Hope Community, Inc. as a forum for poets and musicians to share their work with the East Harlem community. The readings are held every second Saturday during the summer, from June through September in the Modesto Flores Community Garden on Lexington Avenue near 104th Street.

We seek local poets / musicians whose work or person is connected to the East Harlem area. A stipend of $150 is generally awarded to each featured artist for their live presentation; the grant is usually matched by Poets & Writers, Inc. 

Poetas con Café was founded by Board Chair Roger Cabán, who also serves as host each year. In 2007, Mr. Cabán will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Poetas con Café with special tributes and guest throughout the summer.
