Seed of Growth

Seed of Growth is a concrete and mosaic sculpture designed by Lina Puerta, currently underway in the Modesto Flores Garden on Lexington Avenue near 104 street. The public art project was inspired by the strength and diversity of women in the East Harlem community.

Once completed, the sculpture will function as a working water fountain, continually feeding the small stream in the middle of Hope's Modesto Flores Community Garden. Ms. Puerta expects to unveil Seed of Growth by Spring 2008.

Funding for the Seed of Growth sculpture was provided by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts. Adhesive and waterproof materials were provided by LATICRETE International, while Ann Sacks donated ceramic tiles. Hope Community is grateful for their support of Ms. Puerta's installation.
